A hidden gem at Lake of the Ozarks needs our attention! The Historical Brumley Swinging Bridge has been targeted in recent years for closure. Help Us Save the 90-Year-Old Suspension Bridge Before It's Lost Forever!
The historic bridge was originally built in 1930 - 1931. In 2018, the Grand Auglaize Bridge historic swinging bridge located near Brumley, Missouri was in danger of closing down due to a failed inspection. According to this inspection, the historic bridge was considered to be in “Poor Condition”.
After news of the potential closure, a grassroots effort got underway to “Save The Historical Brumley Swinging Bridge” by the local residents in the area. On October 8th, 2020, the bridge was officially listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, which was a major stepping stone in the efforts to save the bridge.
A new inspection of the bridge was conducted in early 2021 which lead to the permanent closure of the historic bridge. The Grand Auglaize Bridge was the last original swinging bridge in Missouri to carry vehicular traffic.
The grassroots effort became an official grassroots organization. “Save The Historical Brumley Swinging Bridge” will continue to strive forward on its mission to restore and repair the historic bridge through grants and donations to allow the bridge to be open to traffic once again!
