Fun Ways to Finish Out Active Dog Month!

April is Active Dog Month, and what a month to focus on those furry pals! Many of you are spending a lot more quality time with those four-legged friends, so why not find ways to make it even more fun and active. The Lake of the Ozarks is a very pup-friendly place, as many vacationers bring their dogs with them for their lake vacations. Here are a few fun ideas of things you can do to get out and get active with your dog, as well as a few places you can take them.

Get Out and Get Active!

The Lake of the Ozarks is a wonderful place to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. Here are a few ways you can get out and get active with your pup.

Nice Long Walks

Grab the leash and a few doggy bags and take a nice stroll on one of these cool spring mornings! Your furry friend is sure to enjoy watching squirrels, smelling the trail, and maybe greeting other pup friends along the trails. The best thing about walks is that they can happen anywhere! Whether you get out and walk through your community or go more rustic and enjoy the Ozark woods for a hike, you can enjoy a walk no matter where you live.

Make Mealtime Active!

Sometimes these spring days might not be conducive for getting outside, but there are still ways to stay active while indoors. Offer your pup's meals in a feeding toy rather than just a food bowl to help keep their mind and body sharp and active. Many studies show that dogs enjoy their food more when they have to work for it. Plus, you can slow down how quickly they are eating their food which is better in the long run for them.

Fun Treat Times

You can also make treat time fun by changing things up a little! You can either use a treat-dispensing toy or play a game of hide and seek using the treats. Start by keeping your dog in one room while you hide treats in another. Let him loose to find all of the hidden treats and have a good laugh while they searching high and low! You’ll want to make the treats fairly obvious to find at first so that they will understand the game.

Practice Dog Tricks

You can practice many tricks and training lessons easily from home. Start with the easy ones, and then work up to the harder ones. Not only are these fun ways to pass the time, but they will learn better behavior and it can strengthen your bond.

Find An Outdoor Activity

We already talked about hiking, but other things like agility training can be great ways to keep your dog in good shape. Agility classes generally teach your pup how to navigate a course of obstacles to jump over and run through. Rally obedience competitions consist of a series of commands you give your dog to complete. Both can be fun to set up at home in the back yard for beginning practice! Who knows you may find that it’s an activity you want to keep going long after staying at home orders.

Places You Can Take Your Dog at the Lake of the Ozarks

If you’re looking for an easy way to get out of the house with your pup while also practicing social distancing, here are a few hot spots! If you know of others, be sure to share them in the comments so we can all enjoy the Lake of the Ozarks with our furry friends!

HaHa Tonka State Park
A series of trails and boardwalks make it a great place for visitors to experience all that the Lake area has to offer. Leashed dogs are welcome through the park, but there may be certain areas where pets are restricted.

Lake of the Ozarks State Park
Similar to HaHa Tonka, this second state park at the Lake of the Ozarks is also a wonderful place to get outside and enjoy some fresh air with your furry friend. Leashed dogs are very welcome, but there could be areas that are restricted like historic buildings or public swimming areas and beaches.

Bark Park in the Village of Four Seasons
The Bark Park is a pet-friendly recreation area in the Village of Four Seasons. The park is an off-leash facility that spans one acre of land on a hill in the village. It’s a wonderful place for you and your pooch to get out and get some exercise.

Get Out and Explore!

There’s never been a better time to get outside and enjoy nature. Best Lake Attractions can’t wait to see you all as you make your summer plans, and we hope that you will be able to join Big Surf Waterpark, the Ozarks Amphitheater, and Bridal Cave to enjoy everything that the Lake has to offer. Until then, be sure to get outside, explore new areas that you haven’t experienced yet, and give those furry friends and extra squeeze for us! Happy Active Dog Month!
